The Apprehension Engine has to be one of a kind but I congratulate its inventor and the player who has mastered it. It is amazing what we can produce when the inspiration gets fired up. thank you for any ideas that you may have stirred to life.

These things are way creepier than they get credit for. Especially the tiny, detuned coconut versions that can be found at flea markets

Any sort of bassy string or horn instrument like cello or trombone. Put a lot of reverb on that and its so beautiful.

I think the dark ambient duo Robe used a tuba. It's actually a bit terrifying under that context

Re: THE BEST INSTRUMENT TO HAVE IN AMBIENT MUSIC?????

I would not refer to the Ettalong "Boutique" Markets as quite a flea market, but I did find a "thumb piano" (M'bira) at one of the shops. As I scrolled down I also found the "Elottronix" which is another intriguing device worth further research, although it is probably expensive. As I said previously, it is amazing what can be created when the inspiration is triggered. Which is a signal to me to stop procrastinating.

i like using effects as instruments— especially reverb. m4l convolution reverb is fantastic for creating space and character in a track.

Re: THE BEST INSTRUMENT TO HAVE IN AMBIENT MUSIC?????

yisss boyy convo reverb is nice
Anything is good to make ambient drones if you put reverb on it, but as for an all in one instrument, idunno. Probably a synth that has high polyphony and/or parts, a decent amount of oscillators, long envelopes, and an onboard fx section. This is a longer way of saying, I don't know
